The auto rickshaw is a staple of India transportation. Rickshaws are hired vehicles and make up about 50% of road traffic here in Bangalore. The rickshaw is perfect for maneuvering through the crazy traffic here. It has a 2 wheel base and a single wheel front, which is steered by handlebars, like a bicycle... giving it an extremely small turning radius and allowing the driver to squeeze into impossible gaps!! The rickshaws are powered by gas cylinders and are quite fuel efficient... they get, on average, 85 miles to a gallon of fuel. They top out at about 30 mph, which is just fine, because the traffic flow is never, ever that fast! Hiring a rickshaw is just like a taxi in the US... simply flag one down and hop in. A rickshaw is a cheap ride, too. Expect to pay about 50 rupees ($1 US) for a lift to the market. Expect to pay about 400 rupees if you want to hire one for 15 minutes to snap a few Christmas card photos of your kids!!!

Finally on your sight. Looks like all is well with you. Kiss the kids for me and hopefully you will give a call when you can.
